Toddler’s Play, Learning, Behaviour And Toys!
Aren’t They Just So Cute?
Well pretty much most of the time they are! But your toddler is in a really rapid stage of growth, development and exploration.
Toddlers are busy absorbing their world and it’s a mighty big and overwhelming world for such a small person. So learning through play is a vitally important part of their development.
Toddlers find themselves at a stage where they are starting to understand what you are saying, although they may not have the ability to express themselves verbally by piecing thoughts and words together.
You might find that this will be a time when your child has extreme outbursts of foot stomping, body squirming and running rampant!
But favourite fun learning toys for toddlers can be useful tools for redirection when tiredness or frustration kicks in.
Mine!
Toddlers are very egocentric and do not consider sharing. If your toddler sees a child with a toy that he wants, he may try to grab it, not realising the consequences.
All you can do is gently continue to teach him what is appropriate social behaviour and over time he will learn to take turns.
This does not only need to be behaviour in ‘social’ situations.
You can teach him to share with yourself and other family members and he will learn to find pleasure in giving others he cares about enjoyment.
Generally, toddlers are quite independent, self-centred and enjoy playing near other children, but not always with them.
Toddlers are typically more active at this time than at any other time in their lives.
Your toddler won’t understand when you tell him that you will go outside to play with him in ten minutes.
He will have no concept of that time frame and will become confused and frustrated when he tries to do it immediately and you repeat, ‘Not yet’!
Enjoy The Ride Of Your Life!
When you find yourself relaxing into her world, you will rediscover many childhood delights and joyfully realise that toddlers are sweet, funny, inquisitive, loving, curious and really special little beings.
Your toddler will be small for such a short time!
So don’t miss out on all the enjoyment that learning with your toddler brings.
Find a time when you can let her choose an activity or one of her top toys that you can both play and then enjoy it through her eyes.
Or join in cooking lunch for teddy with mud and grass cuttings, finger painting dolly’s face, just let yourself go and… ENJOY!
